have joined forces for Mental Health Awareness!
We're fundraising for Kid S.M.A.R.T. to ensure that economic hardship doesn't prevent children from accessing timely and high-quality mental health care. We hope you choose to join us. Your support will help provide scholarships that change lives by providing children and families with the tools and resources they need to thrive long-term!
Two local champions are stepping into the ring for children's mental health. Title Boxing Club Franklin Cool Springs is hosting a collaboration with Mad Charlie Inc. for a family friendly kick-off fundraiser event on May 24th from 1:00pm-3:00pm to launch a month-long fundraiser benefiting Kid S.M.A.R.T. TN, a nonprofit dedicated to improving children's lives through early identification and treatment of developmental and behavioral differences.
The event at Title Boxing Club Franklin Cool Springs (1550 W McEwen Dr, Ste 70) combines the power of physical fitness with mental health advocacy, featuring boxing demonstrations, mental health resources, and family-friendly activities that highlight how physical fitness and early intervention work hand-in-hand to support children's wellbeing.
"Just as fighters train their bodies to be strong, we must train ourselves to recognize and take action when children and families need mental health support," says Angela Powell, co-founder of Mad Charlie Inc. "Early intervention transforms lives. By identifying and addressing neurodevelopmental differences early, we reshape a child's entire trajectory and strengthen their future community."
Kid S.M.A.R.T. (Support for Medication, Assessment, Research, and Therapy) provides crucial neuropsychological evaluations and follow-up services that many Tennessee families desperately need. According to the Tennessee Department of Mental Health, approximately 1 in 5 Tennessee children experience a mental health disorder annually, with less than half ever-receiving early detection, diagnosis or treatment. The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth reported in 2023 that early intervention programs showed 73% improved outcomes for children with behavioral health needs.
Event attendees can participate in boxing demonstrations, access mental health resources, and learn how to contribute to the month-long fundraiser running through June 30th. Donations can be made by clicking the button below. Community members unable to attend can still support by donating, sharing on social media and using the campaign hashtags #FightForMentalHealth #EarlyInterventionSaves #KidSMARTTN. Every dollar raised directly impacts local Tennessee children and families.

Illuminating Neurodiversity Culture!
Neurodiversity culture allows everyone in our community to reach their full potential and contribute to society in meaningful ways by focusing on our brain differences, not deficits. This more expansive view is empowering, uplifting, and inclusive. It will help to break down stereotypes and stigmas about mental health and neurological differences. By discovering and leveraging the unique strengths of every neurodistinct person, we are celebrating and accepting neurodiversity culture. Together, we can help to create a more inclusive world and a more powerful human experience for all.
At Mad Charlie Inc., we aim to bring individuals and families together to
Enhance awareness and acceptance
Build community
Diminish isolation and stigma
Increase support accessibility
We welcome you to join the Mad Charlie Inc. community!
What is Neurodiversity
ITโS ALL OF US! The Neurotypical (NT), or dominant brain type describes individuals with typical neurological development or functioning. Neurodivergent/Neurodistinct (ND) brain types describe individuals differing in mental, cognitive, and neurological functions and/or development from what is considered typical or normal. Neurodiversity defines the range of differences in individual brain function and behavioral traits as part of normal variation in the human population. Neurodiversity is the full spectrum of diversity in the human brain and cognition; for instance in sociability, learning, attention, mood, and other mental functions. The overall structure of our communities are built specifically for neurotypical (NT) brain types. By celebrating and supporting neurodiversity we will begin to create stronger, more inclusive communities for everyone to thrive!
We use the term Neurodivergent because of itโs current popularity and recognition. It's important to note that the concept of neurodivergence is a relatively new one, and that different people may use the term in slightly different ways. There are other terms used to identify neurodivergence. Our favorite is Tim Goldsteinโs Neurodistinctโข. Ultimately, the goal of using these terms is to promote greater acceptance, inclusivity and understanding of neurological differences; to reduce stigma and increase equity of those living within the neurodivergent/neurodistinct experience.
